Role Outline: Walk & Explore Volunteer
Help out in one of our sponsored walking adventures through England’s enchanting past in Bristol on 20th September 2008.

Bristol: College Green, Bristol Cathedral, 20th September 2008.
Hours and timeframe:
From 8.30 until 4.30pm although shifts are available.
Objectives:
Our walk and explore events are sponsered walks for people of all ages and abilities giving them a chance to find out more about England’s historic cities. The money raised go towards vital funds for The Children's Society pinoeering work.
Tasks:
There are a range of volunteering opportunties available in our walk and explore activities, have a look below and and see which of our 14 roles would sort you:
1. Costume characters
Volunteers are needed to dress up in costume and journey back in time.
2. The Finish
We need enthusiastic people to welcome our walkers back by cheering, congratulating each person and distributing medals and goody bags.
3. Giving out refreshments
Volunteers are needed to distribute water and other refreshments to all walkers as well as acting as another point of information and being ready to answer any questions our walkers and the public might have on the event.
4. Balloons
Volunteers are needed to distribute helium balloons to all walkers and also to other passers by in return for a small donation.
5. Face Painting
Creative hands are needed to paint faces throughout the day!
6. Photographers
If you would like to volunteer your photography skills to the event or even develop them we need people who can help us capture the event for future promotion and for media release.
7. Artists for the Art & Fun Tent!
The art tent is filled with activities for children and adults. Volunteers will be needed to inspire people and display the different work when completed!
8. Information Point / Registration
Volunteers on the desk will have to answer questions on everything! Including registering new walkers, directing people and selling the event.
9. Checkpoints
There will be a number of checkpoints on the routes at churches and other historic buildings. We will need volunteers at these positions to congratulate walkers on how far they have gone and spur them to go on!
10. Ground staff to direct
We need well-organised, excellent communicators and general all-rounders to be based in selected locations on site and be able to direct people, help them if they need it and be a friendly face!
11. Marshals
Marshal points will be located on the route to offer people help if they need it, point them in the right direction, be friendly and encourage people to continue with the challenge ahead.
12. Be part of the entertainment!
During the afternoon we are asking singers, dancers, comedians and other entertainers to perform on stage. If you are a member of a group and would like to put them forward for a slot at one of our events we would like to hear from you.
13. Selling Walk & Explore Merchandise
One of our tents will be selling t-shirts and other Walk & Explore we need people who can help us increase fundraising income.
14. Event Ambassadors
Do you have local contacts, know your area like the back of your hand or are passionate and are good at promotion? If so you might be interested in acting as a local events ambassador to help us promote one of the Walk & Explore flagship events or Do Your Own Walk & Explore.
Skills required:
Dependent on the role applied for.
Training and support:
You will receive induction and training to help you in your role as well as supervision, support and flexibility for the jobs you want to do.

Volunteers will be managed in line with our Volunteer Policy.
Reasonable travel expenses to and from the venue will be refunded and lunch will be provided.
