Research carried out by the Children’s Society shows that over 100,000 Children and Young People run away each year in the United Kingdom. One in Twelve of these Young People are hurt or harmed.
This initiative aims to provide support to children and young people who runaway through an independent return visit.
We are looking to appoint an individual to provide administration to support the delivery of our work with Children and Young People who run away from home, care and foster care in Birmingham.
You will have a relevant qualification (equal to NVQ 2 standard or equivalent) and can demonstrate experience of development and maintenance of high standards of service in an administration role.
You will be responsible for to the Administration Manager and will provide a range of admin services including liaising with volunteers and external agencies on the phone, booking and organising meetings and a range of general administration services. You will be supporting a strong team committed to providing information, guidance and support to children and
young people who run away from home, care and foster care in Birmingham.
Hours of work are 16 per week
Funding is initially to March 2009

Job Purpose
To assist in providing efficient and well ordered administrative services to the team, enabling the Safe in the City Birmingham project to provide a high level of service delivery to all its users.

Key Activities
- To provide efficient and well ordered administrative support to the Administration Manager and team colleagues ensuring a high level of confidentiality is maintained.
- To undertake administrative duties such as word processing, filing, data recording.
- To assist with providing accurate and timely reports and information materials, as appropriate, in relation to administration and operational matters as required by the Administration Manager.
- To support the Administration Manager in organising the provision of equipment, office supplies and services as required.
- To provide assistance in monitoring expenditure and coding invoices when required.
- To deal sensitively with general enquiries made to the Project and provide a warm, welcoming and professional approach to users of the Project.
- To take minutes at meetings and assist with administration of conferences and events.
Attainments
In order to be considered for this post you will have to demonstrate that you already have:
Experience
- Relevant experience of working in an administrative position in a paid or voluntary capacity.
Qualifications
General level of education to GCSE standard, or equivalent.
Skills
- The ability to prioritise and manage own workload
- IT skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Email (The Children's Society uses Microsoft Office applications).
- The ability to work both as part of a team and on own, as required
Work Based Knowledge
- Knowledge of filing processes (paper and electronic) and managing general office resources.
