Working in a close-knit team of two, you will support the Challenge Events Manager to develop and deliver the challenge events programme, including a variety of runs, marathons, team challenges and the development of new products.

You will help to plan and implement marketing campaigns to maximise the number of participants on our challenges and you will manage on-going relationships with the participants to motivate them to maximise their fundraising and ensure a lasting commitment to The Children’s Society. You will also liaise with suppliers to ensure they deliver excellent fundraising challenges which satisfy our supporters.

You will be able to demonstrate previous experience of running and marketing challenge events in a charity environment as well as experience of developing excellent fundraising communications to keep participants motivated and enthused to maximise their fundraising. You will have excellent project management, communication and organisation skills.

This role is temporary to 31st March 2009

Hours for this role are 35 per week

Reporting to:

Challenge Events Programme Manager

Job purpose:

  • To support the Manager on all marketing and support aspects of delivering the Challenge Events programme.

Key activities:

  • To project manage individual events projects, as required, from concept to implementation, managing all aspects of the event to ensure agreed targets are achieved within agreed timeframes; to include: budget management, results tracking, briefing marketing agencies, project managing development of marketing materials, briefing data selections, working with PR specialists where relevant, liaising with external suppliers (including specialist events managers and marketing agencies) and carrying out post event evaluation
  • To project manage, within each assigned event, promotional and marketing plans, participant customer care programmes and post event evaluation
  • To review, with the Manager, all events, providing recommendations for future activities and continuously seeking to improve the challenge events offering
  • To efficiently carry out event registration and administration processes and to work with Fundraising Support to ensure that the supporter details are kept up to date on the Fundraising database
  • To build excellent day to day relationships with internal and external suppliers to enable efficient delivery of individual events
  • To maintain a constant awareness of competitor activity and the external market
  • To ensure all marketing activities accurately communicate The Children’s Society brand
  • To represent and speak on behalf of The Children’s Society
  • To attend events as required and co-ordinate the on the day presence where necessary
  • To work with other fundraising teams to identify cross-sell opportunities and to contribute to the effective management and development of supporters.

Attainments:

In order to be considered for this post you will have to demonstrate that you already have:

  • Demonstrable experience in events or marketing, which is within a charitable environment
  • A solid understanding and knowledge of the charity event industry, preferably challenge events
  • An understanding of the mechanics of fundraising, especially through challenge events
  • Experience in liaising with a wide variety of people both internally and externally, at all levels
  • Proven experience of working with databases in a marketing, sales or charity context
  • Proven experience of creating promotional materials and web copy/design
  • Good understanding of how to work within a budget for both expenditure and income

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level standard, or equivalent, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Special Job Circumstances:

This post has the following special circumstances:

  • Weekend work and attendance on some challenge events and at other Children Society events outside normal working hours is required.
