Volunteer Role:
Leading Edge Volunteer
Responsible to:
Volunteer Co-ordinator, Midlands Refugee Project
Location:
Birmingham
Hours and timeframe:
The exact hours per month will depend on the specific activities you support. Typically this would involve no more than 2 hours per week. We ask for a time commitment of at least one year.
Objectives:
- To assist in developing quality activities for young refugees.
- To support young refugees to develop skills, knowledge and self -confidence to enable them to respond to issues affecting them.
- To help young refugees overcome barriers to education.
- To provide an accessible support service to young refugees.
- To share information to further the support of young refugees with service providers, British-born peers, parents/carers and relevant agencies.
Tasks:
To participate in activities such as the following:
- Peer support schemes to welcome new refugees
- Anti-bullying projects
- Homework clubs
- School holiday activities
- Workshops
Skills required:
- Good communicator especially with children and young people
- Good awareness of refugee issues (we can help you learn more about this)
- Good team worker
- Can work alone using initiative
- Can think creatively to educate children in an enjoyable way
Training and support:
All volunteers will be provided with training as well as opportunities for ongoing support and supervision.
Other Information:
Volunteers will receive reimbursement for all out of pocket expenses
Volunteers will be managed in line with our Volunteer Policy
Volunteers will be required to undertake an enhanced Criminal Records Disclosure.
