In the crowded and competitive charity market, can you help The Children’s Society make childhood better for all children in the UK?

As a major team player in the recently expanded marketing department, you will help the organisation develop and improve the effectiveness of marketing communications and activities, helping The Children’s Society to grow income, develop new work and be recognised as a thought leader.

You will be based in the marketing client services team. The role involves working with internal clients ranging from fundraising teams to projects dealing directly with children. You will advise and help individuals and teams deliver on organisational objectives. You will be expected to act as a conduit for all marketing queries, help deliver long-term marketing plans, review process and procedures to ensure best practice and develop class leading communications appropriate to internal and external audiences.

You will have experience of working in a marketing department or creative agency; will have proven skills in developing marketing strategies, influencing existing plans and the ability to communicate with staff at all levels. You will be able to manage a complex workload, solve problems and evaluate major marketing campaigns. A knowledge and understanding of The Children’s Society would also be desirable.

Job purpose

  • To provide professional and appropriate marketing and marketing communications advice, guidance and support to all parts of the organisation in support of strategic objectives
  • To project manage marketing campaigns and development of marketing communications materials and activities to meet business objectives


Key activities

  • Provide professional marketing services to all parts of the organisation
  • Work closely with internal clients across the organisation to develop marketing plans to achieve specific business objectives
  • Work closely with the Brand Manager to develop the organisation’s visible presence with key stakeholder groups
  • Work with the Brand Manager to support The Children’s Society’s brand and ensure standards of corporate identity are maintained
  • Develop and execute briefs for publicity and promotional materials/activities
  • Brief in-house and/or external suppliers, including designers, writers, printers and others as required
  • Manage the development and production of core marketing resources and marketing campaigns, as required
  • Agree service levels with all stakeholders and ensure these are met
  • Act as specialist advice/contact point for one CYP region and other specified departments
  • Manage and control budgets as required 
  • Monitor and evaluate performance of marketing communications activities
  • Support participation of children and young people in development of appropriate marketing communications materials/activities


Attainments

In order to be considered for this post you will need to demonstrate that you have the following:

Education

  • educated to degree level or equivalent

Experience/knowledge

  • experience of preparing and implementing marketing plans
  • experience of project managing marketing campaigns
  • experience of developing and producing a wide range of targeted marketing communication materials
  • a successful track record in creative project management within voluntary sector marketing
  • clear understanding of developing creative work that meets an overall strategy
  • experience of managing external agencies – primarily design and other creative services

Skills

  • excellent communication skills and ability to work successfully at all levels
  • proven project management skills
  • a good understanding of the role of marketing within a voluntary organisation
  • editorial and proof-reading skills
  • strong presentation, influencing and negotiating skills
  • ability to prioritise, manage and co-ordinate a large number of projects simultaneously
  • knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook
