At Unity Project we are focused on youth justice, disability, advocacy, children’s rights, social exclusion, participation, poverty and capacity building for children and young people aged 4 – 19 years and their families. We deliver this through drop-in sessions, targeted programmes, school visits, liaising with local authorities and partner organisations.
As a sessional worker your focus will be to provide support and positive play, leisure experiences as well as targeted group work for children and young people at risk of becoming involved in anti-social behaviour.
You will need to have experience of working with children, young people and their families to support the learning and development opportunities which meet the needs of children, young people and their families.
Hours for this post will be sessional based on a 3 ½ hour session.

Key Activities
- To encourage the personal and social development of children / young people by helping plan and deliver inclusive activities.
- To support children and young people to make choices within the project and have a say in planning and decision-making
- To work within the policies of The Children’s Society and relevant national policies, and to promote anti -discriminatory practice.
- To liaise and work with parents and carers as appropriate
- To work in partnership with colleagues from other agencies
- To keep written records up-to-date
- To contribute to session evaluations and planning
- To attend team meetings and relevant training, as required
Attainments
Qualifications
- A minimum Level 3 qualification in social work, youth and community work or similar (or working towards) is desirable.
- GCSE grade C or above in English, or equivalent skills in written and oral communication.
Experience
- Recent experience of direct work with young people.
- An ability to deliver activities which engage young people within the 13-17 year age range from diverse and often chaotic backgrounds (if you’re applying for work with 11-19’s)
- Experience of youth and community work in a crime diversion / school / young and community / custodial context.
Work-based knowledge
- A working knowledge of Health and Safety and Child Protection / Safeguarding issues and procedures
- A working knowledge of the National Youth Agency occupational standards (if you are applying for work with 11-19’s)
- An understanding of the principles of youth work interventions (if you are applying for work with 11-19’s)
