As an Independent Visitor you would be required to visit and befriend a child or young person who are looked after by the Local Authority who has infrequent or no contact with parents or those who have parental responsibilities.
You would be required to meet the child or young person at a time convenient to them and participate in appropriate activities whilst offering support and guidance to the child or young person.
Responsible to : Children’s Rights Workers
Location : Oldham – Greater Manchester
Hours & timeframe : Approximately 2-4 hours per fortnight for a minimum of 1 year.
Tasks :
- Develop relationships with the young person and their carer
- Support the young person in taking part in a leisure activity of their choice
- Support the physical and emotional needs of the young person during sessions
- Ensure the young person is safe at all times during sessions
- Attend training sessions
- Complete monthly reports for supervisor
- Attend supervision meetings
Skills required :
- Ability to build relationships with young people and significant others
- Communication skills
- Awareness of issues affecting looked after young people
- Reliability and good time keeping
- Good organisation
- Report writing
Training and Support :
- A full training and induction programme, which volunteers will need to attend prior to commencing work
- Continual support and advice through volunteer group meetings opportunities and specific training sessions
- Regular meetings with the Independent Volunteer Co-ordinator for individual supervision and support sessions
Other Information :
- Volunteers will receive reimbursement for all out of pocket expenses
- Volunteers will be managed in line with our Volunteer Policy
- Volunteers will be required to undertake an enhanced Criminal Records Disclosure
