The Children’s Society is developing a Student Transition Support Service to provide intensive support to young people in East Devon who require additional support during the transition period between primary and secondary school.
We’re looking for a Student Transition Support Service Co-ordinator (21 hours per week) to be responsible for assisting the Programme Manager in the co-ordination and development of the Service ensuring that children and young people receive appropriate support to meet their needs around school inclusion and transition.
You’ll be based at Honiton Children’s Centre on Fridays and will spend the rest of your working week working throughout East Devon.
Funding for this Service is provided by the East Devon Local Children’s Trust and is currently secured until 31st March 2011.

Job Purpose:
- To be responsible for assisting the Programme Manager in the coordination and development of the project ensuring that Children and Young People receive appropriate support to meet their needs around school inclusion and transition..
Key Activities:
- To provide effective Coordination of the service developing appropriate referral processes with partner agencies
- To deputise for the Programme Manager in their absence, assisting in the development of the Project and maintaining good day-to-day working practices and relationships
- To deliver and develop appropriate services for children and young people in accordance with current legislation and safe practice
- To be involved in the recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers and staff according to the Society’s policies and procedures
- To provide leadership and support to project workers and volunteers within the Society’s performance management procedures
- To contribute to and develop, models of participation that enable children and young people to be involved in the work of the project
- To support the development of the project by contributing to the annual and on-going planning process of the project
- To build and maintain effective working relationships both internally and with externally while promoting the work of the project and The Children’s Society
- To maintain effective systems for monitoring, evaluating and reporting purposes
- To support the Programme Manager in identifying potential funding sources and assist in writing funding applications
- To support the Programme Manager in monitoring project expenditure in line with approved guidelines
- To contribute to any aspect of the work of the project including training and the dissemination of good practice.
Attainments:
In order to be considered for this post you will have to demonstrate that you already have:
Experience
- Substantial experience of direct work, including child protection, with children and young people, in a school setting
- Experience of team leadership and supervision
Qualifications
- A relevant professional qualification such as Youth & Community, Social Work Diploma or another qualification associated with the area of work
Work based knowledge
- Issues affecting children and young people in a diverse community
- Effective methods of working with children and young people
- Child care legislation and other relevant laws
