I didn’t know an awful lot about The Children’s Society before I joined, other than the fact that it’s a children’s charity. But I was immediately impressed by the atmosphere. In my experience, it’s rare to find a company that genuinely combines professionalism and friendliness – but that’s precisely how it is here.
My role is to troubleshoot any support issues that employees may encounter while using our databases and systems, as well as perform regular data importing and occasional reporting tasks. Plus I have the chance to get involved with any new systems we’re developing or implementing, so there’s always something new and exciting round the corner.
It’s a job that brings me into contact with all areas of the organisation. One minute I could be working with members of the estates department; the next I might be helping out on a project for the CYP division. Right now, the continuing evolution of the organisation’s intranet is a particularly interesting and rewarding project to be involved with.
What’s more, thanks to the excellent working environment, I can be sure that my hard work and skills are appreciated. And it’s great to know that I’m working for an organisation that’s here to make the world a better place, rather than just making a profit for rich businessmen in a faceless corporation.
