Employee Profile - Nisha Hirani

To me, The Children’s Society is a well-established charity that’s totally focused on where it is going. As an organisation, we constantly challenge the Government to change and improve their policies for the benefit of children and young people. In my area of work, for example, that means treating young people in the youth justice system as children first and foremost.

As a qualified social worker, what attracted me most to the Right Track project was the fact that it involves working with young people and parents from Black and minority ethnic groups, and the fact that my job can make a real difference to these families.

Until last year, I was working predominantly with children between the ages of 10 and 18 who are either at risk of offending or already in the youth justice system. Now, as a parenting worker, I’m more involved with the children’s parents and carers. Beyond offering one-to-one and group-based support on school and community issues, I also provide coaching on parenting skills and knowledge.

I’d definitely recommend The Children’s Society as an employer. For one thing, we do vital work to bring positive change to the lives of vulnerable children. At the same time, this is an organisation that’s fully committed to looking after its staff.
