The Children’s Society’s PACT Project, which provides direct services and development initiatives to support and empower disabled young people, require Sessional Workers to join our busy and committed team. Key to the delivery our Reaching Out initiative, you’ll support the Senior Project Worker to identify and secure appropriate voluntary and work placements in the community for disabled young people. You’ll be required to work alongside disabled young people to enable their inclusion as employees and volunteers and support their individual learning programmes and outcomes. To succeed in this role you should have a relevant qualification related to working with children and young people, or working towards this, and have direct experience of working with disabled children and young people. Working hours will be variable but are not likely to exceed 10 hours per week. To help us successfully deliver these services we’re looking for individuals with knowledge, experience and skills to support a diverse range of children and young people as well as the professionals who work with them. Encouraging and advising colleagues on managing risk, you will work alongside our Head of Safeguarding, to ensure that the whole organisation safeguards children effectively. Our work as an organisation spans a range of issues that affect children – disability, refugees, early years and more. While your work will centre around safeguarding, your activities will be varied – from working on confidential, sensitive investigations to developing and revising policy. You’ll help create and deliver training that will empower your colleagues to act in best practice, supporting them as they go. You’ll keep our database current and reflective of policy, making the safeguarding team’s insight accessible to everyone. Encouraging your colleagues to take action to manage risk, your impact will ripple through the organisation. And as a team, the impact we can make will help create a society in which our children absorb values that are loving, safe and positive. With impressive experience of working with children and young people, you’ll also have a record of working with policy and practice development in a safeguarding context. You’ll need to be a qualified social worker with a knowledge of the voluntary sector and the collaborations we form. Downside Neighbourhood Centre is a project run by The Children’s Society, and is a Children’s Centre offering services to children and families within the Downside and Manshead ward of Dunstable in Central Bedfordshire. Our services include early intervention and prevention, health visitor access, Speech and Language, access to Job Centre plus teams, midwives, family support, outreach services, youth clubs and access to the community development officer for the local and Police Community Support Officers. We are seeking to appoint an Administrative Assistant to assist in providing efficient and well-ordered administrative support to the Children’s Centre team. You will undertake administrative duties such as word processing, filing, data inputting, minute taking, ordering of equipment and stationery, and you will be the first point of contact for all enquiries either by the telephone or face to face. You will need experience of working in an administrative position and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Excel and Powerpoint) and a general level of education to GCSE standard or equivalent. Hours of work will be 18 per week. Temporary until 31 March 2011, continuation subject to funding.

The role will also include line management of the Legacy Administration Manager and the technical supervision of the Principal Solicitor, Lawyers for Young People. You’ll be a qualified lawyer, ICSA qualification desirable, but not essential, and have proven post qualification experience in a leading commercial practice. You’ll have good judgement and influencing skills, with strong technical proficiency.
