The Children’s Society wants to create a society where children are valued, respected and happy. We are committed to helping disadvantaged and vulnerable young people, including children in care, or those who have run away. We give a voice to disabled children so their needs are met in ways suited to them. Through our work, young carers find time away from their responsibilities, and young refugees have a chance to rebuild their lives in new communities. Children are at the heart of all we do, and we want to build a better childhood for every child. The Children's Society’s Embrace Project works across South Yorkshire providing support to young refugees, asylum seekers and new migrants. We also work with host communities to raise awareness of the issues affecting these client groups. We are looking to recruit a Community Volunteer Co-ordinator to recruit, train, induct and supervise volunteers to support the work of Embrace; specifically the work which is funded through the Big Lottery Reaching Communities grant. Your focus will be supporting the Schools Worker and Roma/New Migrant Worker with volunteers, as well as taking forward and supporting specific pieces of your own volunteer led work. You’ll have a Social Work degree or equivalent OR a relevant professional qualification e.g. Youth and Community, Education or NVQ 3 Health and Social Care, HNC in Social Care or Early Years 3, or NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care. In addition you’ll also have relevant experience in working with adults, and children and young people from diverse backgrounds, and of training and supervising volunteers. For an informal discussion please contact Embrace on 0114 275 7322. The hours for this post are 37 per week. The post is funded until 17 May 2012. Interview date: 27th September 2010. All recruitment documents are available in alternative formats. Please note that CVs will not be accepted. Charity registration number 221124. We strive to be an equal opportunities employer.
