The OASIS Project has been working with young refugees in Oxford since 2004. The project aims to support young people mostly of secondary age at school in Oxford to overcome barriers to learning and make the most of their educational opportunities

We’re looking to recruit a Project Worker to work in a secondary school in Oxford alongside teachers in order to provide extra support for young refugees. The role will involve some classroom support, running a homework club and liaising with a wide range of school, social services and partner agency staff. You’ll also be expected to help run holiday activities for young refugees.

You’ll be educated to degree level or have a relevant professional qualification e.g. Diploma in Social Work, Certificate in Youth & Community Work, PGCE, and you’ll be a committed team player.

This post is based in Oxford and is 29.6 hours per week.

This post is currently funded until 31st March 2011 but may be extended subject to further funding

The Children's Society’s Embrace Project works across South Yorkshire providing support to young refugees, asylum seekers and new migrants. We also work with host communities to raise awareness of the issues affecting these client groups.

We are looking to recruit a Community Volunteer Co-ordinator to recruit, train, induct and supervise volunteers to support the work of Embrace; specifically the work which is funded through the Big Lottery Reaching Communities grant.

Your focus will be supporting the Schools Worker and Roma/New Migrant Worker with volunteers, as well as taking forward and supporting specific pieces of your own volunteer led work.

You’ll have a Social Work degree or equivalent OR a relevant professional qualification e.g. Youth and Community, Education or NVQ 3 Health and Social Care, HNC in Social Care or Early Years 3, or NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care. In addition you’ll also have relevant experience in working with adults, and children and young people from diverse backgrounds, and of training and supervising volunteers.

The Children’s Society’s Help and Hope Project supports refugee, asylum seeking and migrant families, and young people living in Newcastle. Your work will involve providing targeted support to these children and families with challenges they face such as dealing with discrimination, poverty, poor mental health, maintaining self-esteem and the fear of being deported.

Our model of support incorporates the Common Assessment Framework (CAF) and work can range from helping service users to read and understand their correspondence, supporting them to access relevant services in the city, structured development of parenting skills, and generally building their trust in our project as a ‘first port of call’ if they need support.

You’ll be able to demonstrate skills and experience in building excellent relationships with people facing hardship, as well as assessing, planning and delivering action plans that address the issues that children, young people and parents have identified.

An understanding of the issues facing people within these communities, is important, and you must be a good communicator, equally effective whether relating to young people or their parents/carers.

The Children’s Society Projects in Brighton and Warrington have collaborated to create the ‘Communicate Together’ service which supports pre-school aged children in addressing their communication and language needs.

We’re looking to recruit a Senior Project Worker in Brighton & Hove to deliver and develop the services locally. This will involve group and individual work with children with language and communication difficulties and their parent/carers. The services will improve communication, family relationships, and enhance children’s well-being.

You’ll need to have significant experience of direct work with children and young people with complex needs. You’ll have developed an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting children, particularly those who are disabled. You’ll hold a relevant professional qualification and be passionate and enthusiastic about working with children, young people and their families.

The ‘Communicate Together’ service aims to develop an approach that will be extended throughout The Children’s Society and other organisations nationally. Part of the role will involve extending the service across the country and delivering training to support that. We require two part time Children’s Centre Co-ordinators (each working 21 hours per week) for our new local Children’s Centres based in and around Overton and Hartney Wintney, Hampshire. New Children’s Centre premises will be ready in each of the areas by 31 March 2011. Until then we are operating out of local temporary premises. You will have a lead responsibility for delivering the Children’s Centre core services within the community, by collaborating with other professionals and existing early year services. You will actively manage and support the work of the Children’s Centre Team and ensure all services are improving the outcomes for children.

You’ll need an understanding of multi-agency working, including statutory and voluntary sector organisations, and the importance of evaluating services. To do this you should have NVQ Level 4 or a recognised and relevant professional qualification, you must also be NPQICL qualified or working towards this.

As well as a strong commitment to your development, we offer a generous holiday entitlement, a contributory stakeholder pension, childcare vouchers and flexible working.

This contract is initially to 31st March 2011 with an option to extend until 31st March 2014.

If the contract is extended after 31 March 2011 the hours of work will be reduced to 18.5 hours per week as from 1 April 2011.

The Children’s Society Tees Valley has been contracted to deliver a Children’s Participation Project in Stockton from September 2010 to the end of March 2011. The project will support children with complex and additional needs, between the ages of 5 and 18, in consultation and participation processes to develop their skills and confidence and discover their views and opinions.

Working in partnership with other providers of services to children with complex and additional needs, we will share good practice and raise awareness to develop children’s participation across services. We will also work with partners to help them contribute to borough wide consultation processes with children with complex and additional needs to influence services as well as develop a borough wide participation strategy.

We are looking to recruit sessional workers to support the delivery of the above work. We aim to be as flexible as possible with hours of work and this will be negotiable according to the needs of the children we work with.

You will have some experience of working with a disabled child/children and/or young person and be willing to be part of a team to deliver this work. You will need NVQ level I or II in a relevant subject or have a genuine interest in working towards this. Full induction training and continued support will be given.
